Recently TOGY changed exam boards from Trinity Guildhall to LAMDA. Having had a 100% pass rate with Trinity Guildhall we felt that the LAMDA syllabus would be much more challenging, and therefore more useful for those students looking to take part in official examinations. These exams require preparation and hard work to pass, they're certainly no walk in the park.
LAMDA exams are the industries most recognised Speech and Drama qualification for young people and recently they included a Musical Theatre examination too.
LAMDA exams can be taken from 5 years upwards and grades are denoted by age. They start at Preliminary level and reach all the way up past level 5 into Bronze, Silver and Gold Medals - all of which carry UCAS points. Higher level Gold Medals can actually be counted as A-Levels when applying at university.
A typical exam involved the candidate performing between 1 and 4 contrasting pieces and then to go on to talk the exam on a variety of theoretical points. At the lower levels the conversation may include subjects such as what your character was thinking, at the higher levels you may be questioned more intensely on the way you went about creating a character, their given circumstance, objectives, actions and obstacles.
At TOGY once we know what exam you may be interested in taking we work with students intensely to provide practical feedback and theoretical grounding. We help you find pieces to perform, and discuss with you the kinds of questions the examiner may 'fire at you'.
For those students interested in taking these exams, they will be held on a yearly basis, allowing parents and students to see progression.
